Newcastle Airport serves the North-East of England and you can travel to European destinations from there. They have recently invested over a half a million pounds in a new project which aims to redevelop the area in front of the terminal building, which is aimed at providing a more secure and safe environment for staff, passengers and visitors. The two main changes that are being made as part of these developments include a new pick up and drop off car park facility to be used for the private cars and taxis who are dropping off or collecting passengers at the airport. As part of this, private cars will not be permitted to drive past the terminal building at the front, as barriers will restrict access to this area. This helps pedestrians who will find Newcastle airport a more safe area for crossing. This also adds to security as it will no longer be possible for unauthorised vehicles to drive or stop by the terminal building, and it will reduce congestion for all of the users of the airport. This redevelopment was completed in May 2003, and clear signs have been created to aid drivers in finding the correct routes and car parks to suit their needs.
The short term car park is best suited for those people who are looking to only be there for a few hours. This might be so that they can drop off a passenger or meet a passenger on their arrival. Or some business travellers like to use the short term car park as it is nearer to the terminal so they can make the whole process quicker and more convenient. Of course, this speed and convenience comes at a cost. Parking is free for the first 15 minutes, then costs £1 for the next 15 minutes and £2 should you stay for an hour. Between 90 minutes and 4 hours parking costs £5 and then up to 24 hours it costs £9. 2 days parking costs £12 and then every subsequent day costs £7 a day.
The long term car park is further away from the terminal but it is cheaper for those staying for longer. The main difference comes in the low season, when parking for up to two days is £11 and for the third day is an extra £5.50, followed by £5 for each additional day after that, which is a saving of about £25 on a price for a two week trip away. During the high season the cost is £12 for the first two days, then £6 for the next day and £5.50 for the subsequent days.
